The Indian Hierarchies

India is a world in itself. The states of northern and southern mainland India can be grouped within the three-tiered hierarchy as well. [The mostly micro-cultural Union Territories and Sikkim may be excluded].

Political Social Economic
[Central States] [Eastern States] [Western States]
Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Jammu and Kashmir Bengal, Orissa Gujarat, Maharastra, Rajasthan, Goa
[Southern States]
Andhra Pradesh Karnataka Tamil Nadu, Kerala

Away from the mainland, is North-East India. This is a frontier region of seven states, of predominantly tribal cultures, and do not manifest any historical or cultural hierarchy amongst them. The North-East, especially the states of Assam, Manipur and Tripura represent a fusion between the Indian and the Oriental / Mongoloid cultures.
